About Me

Hello, my name is Sam Chivers..

I live on the south coast of England with my wife and young son and our cat.

Day to day I work as an illustrator making images for editorial, publishing and advertising.

I also make images as an ongoing part of my artistic practice, some of which are available here to buy.

All of my work begins with a pencil drawing in my sketchbook. Sometimes this drawing will be from my imagination, or from a photograph I've taken whilst out walking, or a series of photographs that i've collaged together in Photoshop. 

Then i work over the drawing digitally in Photoshop. Sometimes I'll make elements using 3D software then paint over them.

I'm naturally drawn to landscapes and the narratives and journeys therein. I like to keep these narratives open ended, free and mysterious, inviting the viewer to speculate as to their meaning.

All of my work no matter how fantastical, is influenced at some level by the shapes and forms of my immediate surroundings, that being the South Downs.
